David Sanders, 80, born on July 5, 1938 in Sylvania, Georgia passed away November 6, 2018 at the Oaks in Pooler under the care of hospice. David graduated from Screven County High School in 1956, where he played football and baseball. He served 4 years in the United States Air Force and worked for 30 years with AM Corporation servicing equipment in Georgia and South Carolina. David was a member of Midway United Methodist Church, the Alpha Sunday School class and the Happy Hearts. He also served as a church trustee for numerous years. David was a member of the Midway Hunting Club in Screven County for 35+ years. He enjoyed telling a good story or joke and he spent much time doing so. David was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Sangster Sanders, his parents, David W. Sanders, Jr. and Gwendolyn Davis Sanders, a daughter, Gwendolyn Sanders Williams, and a brother, Louis Roblyn Sanders. He is survived by wife, Barbara M. Martin; daughter, Sandra S. Powell (Randall); step-children, Debra Ebbersole, John E. Brooks, Jr., Jimmy Martin (Susan), Gill Martin and Kathy Poole (Greg); grandchildren, Scotty Behrman, Elizabeth Sanders Wheeler (Shaun), Sara Behrman and Michael Dustin Williams; 5 great grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren; two brothers, Loy Davis Sanders and Larry Carl Sanders (Linda); one sister, Harriet Sanders Ebberwine (Joe). A visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Midway United Methodist Church and the funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at the Dorchester Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Matt Sowell, Casey Sowell, Eddie Harley, Jeff Black, Jimmy Martin and Scotty Behrman. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
