David Lloyd Messner, known as Dave, beloved by those who knew him, passed away peacefully at age 79, on November 7, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born August 10, 1945, to the late Ralph Lloyd and Frances Rita Messner, Dave lived a life full of love, joy, and peace. He was the devoted and adoring husband of Sandra Darlene, married on June 28, 1969 for 55 years. While his family will grieve his loss, they are comforted by a life well-lived and stand in faith that they will see him again in Heaven.
Dave graduated St. Joseph's High School in 1963. He retired from Lehigh Cement Company in Woodsboro, MD where he worked for over 36 years. As a strong man of faith, he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was a lector for many years. He coached Little League in Thurmont and made an impression on countless young lives.
Known as "Pap" to his grandchildren, he was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was extremely generous not only to his family but to all in need.
Dave is survived by his wife, Sandra, and his children, Donna Gebhart and husband Brian of Gettysburg, PA, Stephen and wife Michelle of Moore, OK; grandchildren, Brian Christopher Gebhart and wife Clair of Carrol Valley, PA, Amanda Gebhart of Huntington Beach, CA; great-grandson Elias Gebhart and sister Beverly Sutton of Thurmont, MD.
Dave was preceded in death by brothers Larry Messner and Ronald Messner both of Thurmont, MD.
The Family will receive friends at St. Mary's Catholic Church 256 Tract Rd, Fairfield, PA 17320 on Wednesday November 13, 2024, at 10 AM until the start of the Mass of Christian Burial which will begin at 11.
Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
