David Winton McKinnon, 86, of Lilburn, GA, son of the late Otis H McKinnon and Georgia Lee McKinnon went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday May 10, 2023. He was born in Ridgeland, SC on April 19, 1937. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Joan P McKinnon, of Lilburn, GA, and his brother Otis McKinnon, of Taylors, SC. He is survived by his son Mark McKinnon (Wendy) of Bethlehem, GA and daughter, Christy Carrington (Alan) of St. Mary's, GA. His family was his pride and joy, including his grandchildren, David McKinnon of Braselton, GA; Dalton McKinnon and Dillon McKinnon of Bethlehem, GA; Jordan Thompson (Ryan) of Kingsland, GA; Allison Carrington of Lawrenceville, GA; and Nicholas Carrington of St. Mary's, GA; and, great granddaughters Ada Joan and Ivy James Thompson of Kingsland, GA. Other survivors include his sister Rebecca Godfrey of Gaffney, SC; sisters-in-law Jean Bagwell of Blowing Rock, NC, and Mary Ann Wright (Chuck) of Greenwood, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. A 1959 graduate of Furman University, David served two years active duty in the United States Navy. He retired in 1991, after a successful career with Sears, Roebuck and Co. He then worked as a bailiff for the Gwinnett County Judicial System for 19 years. He was an avid Atlanta sports fan, especially loyal to the Atlanta Braves and rarely missed a game on TV. He and Joan spent many years camping with their family and they especially enjoyed many summers at Myrtle Beach, SC. David was an active, longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lilburn He gave his life to Christ at an early age and faithfully served Jesus throughout his life, leaving a Godly legacy for his children and grandchildren. A Celebration of Life was held at Bill Head Funeral Home, Tucker Chapel on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. He will be buried at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at a later date.
