MALONE, David F. Age 84, of Hingham, MA, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, on June 28, 2022. Born in Cambridge, MA, he was the son of Edward A. Malone, Sr. and Catherine J. (Murphy) Malone. David was the youngest of five siblings. He is preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen R. Malone, brothers Edward A. Malone, Jr. and John T. Malone. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marilyn (Miller) Malone; sons, Devin Malone (Geri) of Dallas, TX, and Derik Malone of Hingham; daughter, Catherine Habas (David), of Lafayette CA; and former daughter-in-law, Debra Del Toro of Hingham; grandchildren, Taylor Malone, Andrew and Reid Habas, and Anthony and Harper Malone; his sister, Mary T. Luger of Alexandria, VA; a nephew and several nieces; including his goddaughters, Jeanne Pulscak and Karen DiSanto. A graduate of Matignon High School in Cambridge, MA, David excelled in academics and athletics, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, where he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemistry. While in South Bend, he met Marilyn Miller when both were young teachers. In 1962, David and Marilyn were married in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of The University of Notre Dame. They moved to Massachusetts where David established a career in education that lasted over 50 years. Teaching positions at Dedham High School and Blue Hills Technical Institute in Canton led to an appointment as Dean of the Technical Institute. In 1985, he was appointed Dean of Science and Mathematics at Massasoit Community College in Brockton. He was later named Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at Massasoit, a role he held until he retired in 2002. He remained at Massasoit as a part-time consultant in the Academic Affairs Division until 2017. David was a man of strong character, quiet strength, and a quick wit. A lector and member of Saint Paul's Parish, he lived in Hingham for 35 years where his love of the ocean, that began as a youth, continued. He enjoyed sailing with siblings and cousins, and later boating and swimming with his children in Crow Point, Hingham, where he served on the Board of the Bel Air Beach Association. An avid golfer, David won many tournaments as a member of South Shore Country Club in Hingham and Stonebridge Country Club in Naples, FL. Annual trips with his children to Quechee, VT, and Naples deepened his appreciation for the outdoors. In retirement, David wrote stories recounting his childhood in the magazine, Growing up in North Cambridge. Among them were memories of his father's pharmacy in Cambridge, where he worked for the family business as a youth. Always proud of his Irish heritage, his hometown of Cambridge, and his Boston roots, he never missed a chance to cheer for his area sports teams. From an early age, he attended many games at the old Boston Garden and Fenway Park, including game six of the 1975 World Series when Carlton Fisk hit his memorable home run off the left field foul pole. A Funeral will be held this summer at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, University of Notre Dame, followed by a Private Burial in South Bend, IN.
