David E. Jones passed away at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC, after a 20-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. David was the son of Edward Charles Jones, Jr. and Doris Marion Potts Jones, of Glen Mills, PA. He spent most of his growing-up years in Nashville and Chattanooga, TN. He was an avid golfer and played on the golf team at The Baylor School in Chattanooga, where he was a valedictorian of his class. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he majored in physics with a minor in mathematics. He worked in computer graphics design for the DuPont Company in Wilmington, Delaware. and received several patents for products in the computer graphics field. He moved to Raleigh in 2018 to be near his sister. In Raleigh he resided at Morningside Assisted Living for 3 years followed by 2 years at Hillcrest Rehab and Nursing. He enjoyed playing bridge and was a "history buff" and especially enjoyed books and videos about military history. Until shortly before his passing, he enjoyed "Trivia" games and despite the limitations of Parkinson's, still had a keen memory for facts. David was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his sister Linda L. Jones of Raleigh, NC, first cousins Lawrence W. Potts and Donald F. Potts of Minnesota, as well as numerous other cousins. The family is very grateful to the staff members at Morningside of Raleigh and Hillcrest of Raleigh for the care they provided David. A viewing will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612) at ,0:30 on April 12 followed by a brief graveside service at Raleigh Memorial Park at 11:00am.
