David R. Hutchinson, of Mashpee, MA and formerly of Raynham, MA, passed away on August 20, 2024, after a short illness and a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), a rare neurodegenerative disorder. He is the beloved husband of Kathleen "Kathy" Mary (O'Keefe) Hutchinson with whom he shared nearly 58 wonderful years of marriage.
David was born in Dighton, MA, on September 8, 1940, to the late Edward W. Hutchinson and Mary Constance "Connie" (O'Keefe) Hutchinson. He was raised on his family's duck farm in Raynham, where he attended local schools and graduated from Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton in 1958. David graduated from Newton Junior College in 1960 and began a nearly 60-year career in real estate, starting at Briggs and Hutchinson Real Estate. He later founded The Hutchinson Company, expanding to eight offices. In 1983, he joined Coldwell Banker as a franchise owner, renaming the firm Coldwell Banker Hutchinson Group, which he sold in 1999 but continued to manage until 2009. He concluded his career as a partner in Ballow & Hutchinson Realty Group, Inc.
Throughout his lifetime, David served on the boards of the Taunton American Red Cross, Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce, and Taunton United Way. He served terms as President of the Taunton YMCA, a Corporator of Morton Hospital and Medical Center and Bristol County Savings Bank, and a member of the Taunton Rotary Club. He was a member of St. Ann's Parish in Raynham and Christ the King Parish in Mashpee.
David met his soulmate, Kathy, on a blind date, and married in 1966. They celebrated their life together in many ways, including travels to Australia, New Zealand, Europe, South America, and across the U.S. They owned a condo for 41 years on Hutchinson Island in Stuart, FL, where David and family enjoyed tennis, golf, and beach activities. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working in his yard. David was a true Boston sports fan, and also enjoyed watching golf and attending professional tennis matches. His passion for sports extended to participating in local road races, skiing, and playing golf and tennis. He loved attending the athletic events of his three daughters, who inherited his love for sports.
