David Edward Hollar, 79, of White Plains, Maryland passed away on July 13, 2024, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
David was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on August 26, 1944, to Charles and Grace Hollar. He graduated from Fairfax High School and then Bob Jones University. He served in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Lieutenant in Vietnam. Following his military service, he began a 30 year career with the General Services Administration where he worked as an accountant and branch chief until his retirement.
Along with spending time with his family, David enjoyed the OBX beaches, 7-Eleven coffee, reading the paper, Christmas fruitcake, and taking naps. In 1991, he required a heart transplant which saved his life and gifted him with over 30 more years to spend with his wife and son while also meeting his daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He is the author of a book describing his heart transplant experience, "Mr. NewHeart - Heart Attack to Transplant and Beyond" as well as a second book describing his experience in the Army, "Casualties of War - an Infantry Lieutenant in Vietnam".
David is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Grace. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sylvia; his brothers Paul and Steve; his son Michael and wife Christy; and grandchildren Ben, Reagan, Tommy, and Grace who he lovingly referred to as "The Quartet".
A service was held for David on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at La Plata United Methodist Church with interment the following day at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Virginia.
