David V. Hayes, Jr. 79, of Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
David was born August 4, 1943, in Altus, Oklahoma to David V. Hayes, Sr., and Mary Hayes.
David married Elizabeth "Libby" Underwood in Amarillo, Tx September 3, 1964. Together had three children, David V." Trey" Hayes III; Jacob Porter "Jay" Hayes; Mari-Elizabeth "Missy" Hayes.
His personal relationship with God was foremost in his life. He enjoyed running and fishing in his spare time. He loved watching the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys play. He also enjoyed the sound of rain.
He graduated from Texas Technological College "TTU" with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
David was an accomplished chemical engineer for over 50 years. He worked for Pantex, Celanese Chemical Co., Pioneer Natural Gas, Atmos Energy, BLM Helium Operations, and assisted in launches at NASA. In retirement, he enjoyed substitute teaching for Amarillo ISD.
He is survived by his wife, children, daughters-in-law April Hayes and Kelli Hayes, siblings, D'Ann Laws, Steven Hayes, Mary Lynne Hayes, Dana Hayes, and Karla Howard, seven grandchildren, Tyler and Chloe Hayes; Reagan Hayes; Isaac Darden; Jacob Hayes II; Jace Hayes; Jayden Hayes; and Lillian Elizabeth Hayes, several nieces and nephews, his brother-in-law, Bill and Robin Underwood, and his beloved dog, Micki.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dean Edgar Hayes, and nephew, Michael Edgar Hayes.
