David L. Goodwin, 75 of Oblong, passed away in his home on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. David (Dave) was a retired farmer and life-long resident of Oblong.
Dave is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra Owen Goodwin; his children: Jana and Steve Hanagan, Kevin and Tina Goodwin, and Brad and Kristina Goodwin, grandchildren: Drew and Savanna Hanagan, Nathan Hanagan, Katie Hanagan, Raina Goodwin, Cora Goodwin, Ellysen Goodwin, Ransom Goodwin, Ella Goodwin, and Will Goodwin.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Marjorie Utterback Goodwin, sister Judy Moore, grandparents Glen and Nellie Utterback, Albert and Ethel Goodwin, step-grandmother Miriam Goodwin and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Dave was born in Robinson, IL, on October 2, 1946, and graduated from Oblong High School in 1964. After high school, he married his high school sweetheart Sandy, joined his father on the family farm, and worked as a farmer for many years before retiring. In retirement, Dave and Sandy spent the winter months in Texas, living in Mission and Alamo. They also spent time traveling visiting their children and grandchildren.
Dave was involved in his community and church and was always willing to help people out when they needed it. He was generous with his time and his resources, and he had a heart for others. Dave loved his family and was proud of his children. He always encouraged them to follow their hearts. Dave never met a stranger and would often be found striking up conversations with people he had never met. Dave loved music, and in retirement, he even recorded both gospel and country music and shared it with everyone that he could. Dave had a lot of things he loved in life; music, laughing, family and friends. But most of all, he loved Jesus. He knew life on earth was short, but his eternal life was forever through his faith in Jesus Christ.
