David Dohn, 67, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 22, 2020, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.
In 1953, David was born in Eureka, SD, to parents Walter and Martha Dohn. He grew up in Eureka with his sister, Cindy, and brother, Tim. David graduated from Eureka High School, where he met the love of his life, Peggy Albrecht. He continued to Lake Area Vocational School and graduated as a dental lab technician. Before owning and operating Valley Dental Lab in Grand Forks, ND, for 35 years, he and Peggy partnered with Peggy's parents in the Coast-to-Coast store in Eureka for several years. After undeniable hard work, David sold Valley Dental Lab and retired in 2016. David and Peggy chose to retire in Elk River, MN, to enjoy the warmer winters and beautiful lakes Minnesota offers.
David loved with all his heart. He adored his family, spoiling grandchildren, his dog Windsor, the outdoors, woodworking, and fixing things even if they didn't need to be fixed. He found peace at the lake fishing for walleye and hunting pheasant with his sons-in-law and grandsons. He put a smile on everyone's face with his humor and charm. He taught his daughters the importance of compassion, hard work, family devotion, and being the best version of themselves. David was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Peggy; daughters, Danielle (Michael) Knutt, Nicole (Pete) Carlson, Rachelle (Rob) Hunt, and Lindsey (Ricky) Hages; grandchildren, Lauren and Aubrey Knutt, David and Adam Carlson, Dylan and Owen Hunt, and Evelyn and Little Ricky Hages; sister, Cindy (Kim) Miller; and brother, Tim Dohn; sisters-in-law, Sharon Albrecht and Joann Weber. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Martha (Fischer) Dohn, parents-in-law Edmund and Florence Albrecht; brothers-in-law, Larry Albrecht, and Donnie Albrecht, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation is from 9:30 AM-10:30 AM (50-person capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions). A private family service to follow at 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at Dare's Funeral Home, Elk River, MN. The service will be streamed via Zoom.
Memorials may be given to the Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare Foundation or the American Heart Association in memory of David Dohn.
