Mrs. Kay "Darlene" Staney, age 67, of Rome, GA, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.
Darlene was born in Floyd County, Georgia on February 13, 1957. She is preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie Inez Smith (formerly Burkhalter.) She is also preceded by her loving husband of 14 years, John Chandler "Pete" Staney Jr. and her siblings, Carl Dale Smith, Darl Eugene Smith, and Dan Thomas Smith.
Survivors include her daughters, Julie Lyons and Trina Sharpe (Michael); her grandchildren, Jacqueline Silas (Agustin), Zachary Lyons, and Shayla Garcia (Zach), her great-grandchildren, Penelope Reynolds, Chandler Garcia, Tyler Smith, and Adelina Salas; her siblings David Smith, Kathy Sharpe, Tracy Smith, Donnie Smith (Janice), Dwight Smith, and Shawn Smith (April); her niece-in-law and caregiver, Sabrina Hicks; as well as several other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Darlene loved the holidays, especially the ones where she got to cook for her family. Her favorite holiday of all was Christmas. Darlene loved cooking, baking, and crafting/painting, and was most fond of a painting technique called dotting. She also enjoyed online shopping, and she loved giving and receiving flowers. Darlene was very loved and will be missed dearly.
Darlene will be cremated in accordance with her wishes. Her family will be hosting a private memorial service at a later time.
