Darlene E. Geyer, age 82, of De Smet, passed away along with her sister, Ruby Lee from Isabel leading her the way Home, on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at Avantara Health Care Center in Lake Norden, SD.
Darlene Ernestine Pladsen was born March 31st 1937, to Ernest and Byrda (Smith) Pladsen in Isabel, SD. She grew up on the family farm. She attended country school at Van Dusen and graduated from Isabel High School in 1957.
In 1959, Darlene started her career as a Certified Nurses Aid spanning the next 50 years. She worked for 20 years at St. Johns Hospital and spent the following 30 years at nursing homes around the area, caring for her residents.
On May 29th, 1965, Darlene married Robert Geyer at Huron, SD. Robert and Darlene lived in Huron for a number of years. In February 19, 1968, they welcomed the birth of their one and only child, Sharon.
In May of 1972, Robert and Darlene moved to the Geyer family farm, where she enjoyed a number of activities of caring for chickens and cats and other various farm animals. Darlene and Robert in later years enjoyed working at the South Dakota State Fair in various positions.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters, Dorothy (Ernie) Pogany, Doris (Martin) Eastman, Ruby Lee (Duane) Locken, Elaine Cundy, brothers-in-law, Gene Schnabel, Richard (Joyce) Geyer, Fred Muilenburg,
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Sharon Geyer-Nuttbrock of De Smet, SD; two grandsons Nathan Nuttbrock of Sioux Falls, SD, and Gavin Nuttbrock of Watertown, SD, sister Lucille Schnabel of Houston, TX, brother-in-law Art (Barb) Geyer of De Smet, SD and a sister-in-law, Ruth Muilenburg of DeSmet, SD, Dale Cundy of Huron, SD, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Darlene Geyer will be at 10:30am on Friday, January 3rd, 2020 at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Arlington with Pastor Aaron Olson officiating. Burial will be following services at the De Smet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, January 2nd, 2020 at the Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Arlington and preceding services in the church on Friday.
