Linda Darlene Church Friend, 72, transitioned to Heaven on Sunday, June 12, 2022. She was born in Avon Park, Florida and moved to Jacksonville at an early age.
She attended local schools and graduated in 1967 from Ribault High School. In 1968, she was blessed with her daughter, Tonya Smith Linton and they have been best friends for many years. On June 15, 1996, she married the love of her life, Bobby Friend and their 26th anniversary is this Wednesday. Darlene had a love for the Lord and for singing. She joined the Sweet Adelines 41 years ago and has been a long time member of North Jacksonville Church of God, where she served in the Music Ministry, Sunday School Teacher and Ladies Ministry. She retired in 2016, with more than 20 years service at FSCJ and volunteered at UF Health North until her health declined. Darlene was a sweet person and she never met a stranger. She was the life of the party!
Preceded in death by her parents, Bert & Mildred Church and 2 brothers: Sam Church & Ronald Church.
Surviving family include her husband, Bobby Friend; daughter & son-in-law: Tonya & Chuck Linton; 2 granddaughters: Macey & Jacob Juneau and Mikaela & Justin Thomas; 1 great granddaughter, Mia Thomas and Harper Juneau is due in 3 weeks.
Celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at North Jacksonville Church of God, 7600 Kenya Avenue (I-95 & Edgewood Avenue) with Pastor James A. Hull, officiating. Burial will be private at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Peeples Event Center, 14165 N. Main Street.
