Dannie Hardy Walters, 80, passed away on October 29, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 7, 1941, in Orrum NC, to the late Luke Rhodes Walters, Sr. and Hazel W. Smith.
Dannie was preceded in death by his parents, as well as Mittie Hester Walters of Charlotte, NC, C.W. Smith of Fairmont, NC; maternal grandparents, Hardy and Alice Warwick from Orrum NC, and paternal grandparents Dannie Stephen and Theodosia Barnes Walters, also from Orrum NC, along with special uncles, aunts and cousins.
He is survived by sisters, Laine Brock and husband, Jeff Campbell, of Huntersville, NC, Margo Foster and husband, John Foster, of Atlanta, GA, and Delores Wells and husband, and Jack Wells, of Mint Hill, NC; a brother, Luke Rhodes Walters, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Fayetteville, NC; nephews, Joshua Brock (Kelly) of Terrell, NC and Zachary Brock (Anna) of Huntersville, NC; nieces, Marcie Wells (Phyllis Taylor) of Penrose NC, Jackie Gold (Justin) of Locust NC, and Kelly Wallace of Fayetteville, NC, along with several great- nephews and great-nieces, a great-great-niece, and special aunts, Sara Warwick Williams of Lumberton, NC and Sue H. Walters of Orrum NC, in addition to cousins. Dannie leaves behind many friends and his family to cherish his memory with his graciousness, humbleness, kindness, and loving care shown to all. He left this world a better place.
Dannie lived most of his life in Rock Hill, SC. He graduated from Rock Hill High School. He acquired the love of NASCAR through his Dad and was a longtime fan. His career was with Springs Industries until his retirement. Dannie was a lifelong Baptist and a member of the Gospel Light Baptist Church where he served as an usher for many years.
During the first part of his adolescent years, Dannie lived in Orrum, NC with his Mother, maternal Grandmother and siblings. Dannie and his brother enjoyed playing baseball with their friends. Starting in early childhood, Dannie became an avid New York Yankees fan that lasted throughout his life. His lifetime hobby was watching baseball on TV and collecting baseball cards of his favorite players.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for long-time dedicated caregiver and friend, Susan Ayers and her special dog, JuJu, along with close-loving friends, Sandy Amerson, Jim and Harriette Moore, Gina and Foy Pratt, and others, who visited him daily and provided much love and support, especially during his time of illness. A special thanks goes to the staff of Hospice & Community Care, specifically to Allison Hutcheson (RN) and Heather White (CNA) who provided loving care to Dannie.
There will be a memorial service on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 10 am at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC. Visitation will follow the service. Burial will be at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte, NC.
