Help us celebrate Daniel! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Daniel.
Dan R. Weir, beloved husband, dad, grandfather (Poppa), great grandfather, brother, uncle, and past president of Weir's Furniture, died peacefully November 19, 2022. He was 86. Recognized as an industry leader, a mentor and an inspiration to many, Dan impacted countless lives through his leadership at Weir's. By means of his spectacular generosity, thoughtfulness, hand-written notes of encouragement, and desire to see others experience the life-changing forgiveness available through a relationship with Jesus Christ, Dan's legacy will impact generations to come. To God be the glory!
Daniel Ray Weir was born on May 6, 1936 in Fort Worth, Texas to Ray and Bea Weir. In 1948, the Weir family of four moved to Dallas to begin Weir's Early American Shop in a modest twenty-foot-by-seventy-foot store on Knox Street. Dan and his older sister Patsy had a front-row seat as their parents diligently worked to establish their new business and sought to serve their customers with honesty and excellence.
Dan attended North Dallas High School and went on to study at Baylor University. During his senior year of college, he began dating Martha Wicker, whom he married May 21, 1960. On September 1, 1960, he began what would become a nearly forty-five-year career at Weir's Furniture.
Dan learned the furniture business from the ground up. He worked in the warehouse, made deliveries, and served customers directly. In October 1972, Ray and Bea retired, and Dan became president of Weir's. He served as president until June 19, 2003 and later retired in May 2005.
As a visionary merchant and leader, Dan always put people first. Acknowledging that, in addition to God's guidance and blessing, "At Weir's, the difference is people," Dan would run special ads spotlighting Weir's associates on their company anniversaries. Dan cared deeply for the congregation of his diverse church family, City Church International. Dan's strong personal commitment to honor God paved the way for him to admit when he was wrong, to seek to apply principles from scripture in the workplace, to help others become successful, to invest in his family, to serve customers' needs, and to sincerely love those he worked alongside.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents J. Ray and Bea Weir, niece Julie Ann Moore, and grandson Samuel Weir.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife Martha, sons and daughters-in-law Blake and Laura, Brad and Angela, Brooks and Gretchen, 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, sister Patsy Moore, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the many devoted family and friends who have walked beside us on this journey during Dan's illness-lifting us up in prayer, blessing us with kindness, and showering us with love. We appreciate and love you all.
