Daniel J. Hanifin, 82, of Berlin, CT, beloved husband of Janice (Ashe) Hanifin, died on Tuesday (May 5, 2020) at UConn John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington, CT of complications from a stroke. Dan was born in Gloversville, NY on April 28, 1938 and was one of three children of the late Harold and Alice "Betty" (Millerd) Hanifin. He was a lifelong Gloversville resident until moving to Berlin, CT in 2014. He graduated from Gloversville High School in 1957 and was employed by Hussmann Corporation for 42 years before retiring. In his younger years, Dan enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club. He also enjoyed keeping his yard in shape, travel, and trips to the casino. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit while in Gloversville. Dan had much love for his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 58 years, Dan is survived by three sons: John Hanifin and wife, Barbara of Bristol, CT, David Hanifin and wife, Mary of Milton, MA, and Daniel P. Hanifin and wife, Sandi of Voorheesville, NY; two sisters: Betty Mattice of Amsterdam, NY, and MaryJo Docking and husband, Bill of Holly Hill, FL; three grandchildren: Clara Hanifin of Media, PA, Edward "Ted" Hanifin of Milton, MA and Chloe Hanifin of Voorheesville, NY; brother-in law James Ashe of North Carolina and sister-in-law Joyce Ashe of Gloversville and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Vivian Hanifin of Boston, MA. Due to current restrictions, a private burial will be held at a later date.
