Henry Daniel Pfeiffer, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully at Somerford House in Frederick on August 24, 2024. Dan was born on March 18, 1937 to the late Henry Daniel Pfeiffer, Sr. and Lucy Loretta Manning. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Barbara.
Dan is survived by his sister Rosalie Pfeiffer Skidmore of Cumberland, MD and his brother Howard "Sonny" Pfeiffer and wife Helen, of Mississippi, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dan earned his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Frostburg State University and a Master's degree from University of Georgia. He retired from Frederick County School System where he taught for over 30 years at Frederick Junior High School and at Thomas Johnson High School. After retiring from teaching, he stayed active with proctoring college entrance exams. He also helped sell tickets at many High School football games.
He was a member of the National Guard and enjoyed activities and fellowship at the Middletown Amvets, including dinners three nights each week when he was able. Dan joined the Middletown Lion's Club in 1974. He was an active and dedicated member throughout his life. Some of his favorite projects included co-chairing the Golf tournament and chairing the GA Pecan Fundraiser. Dan was awarded an honorable recognition as a Melvin Jones Fellow for his commitment and attitude towards service. Dan was also a charter member of the Middletown Young at Heart Exercise group since 2001. Dan also loved to travel, especially cruises and trips to Hilton Head, SC.
The family would like to thank the staff at Somerford House for caring for Dan over the past few months. and to Dan Miller and Greg Brashears for caring for his yard and home over the past few years and a special thanks to Wendy and Lisa for their friendship to Dan and all the kindness they showed him.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Thompson Harman Funeral Home, 31 E. Main Street, Middletown. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 12 Noon in Hillcrest Memorial Park, 10901 Mason Road NE, Cumberland, MD 21502.
