Cynthia Lorene Price was found dead on Dec. 29 by deputies in the Rappahannock County Sheriff's Office after a relative requested police assistance to check on Cynthia by entering her locked barn-apartment in Woodville. Her death at age 71 appeared to be a result of natural causes.
Born in September 1949, Cynthia was the eldest of three children raised by two public school educators - Bernie and Wilhelmina Price. From grades 4 through 11, Cynthia attended schools overseas under the umbrella of the U.S. Department of Defense, where her father was always the school principal and her mother taught English or headed the library. She became fluent in French and traveled widely with the family. As she aged, she enjoyed reminiscing about her experiences in Europe and the Middle East.
Her university studies began at George Washington University, continued through a year at the American University of Paris, and concluded at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, from which she graduated magna cum laude with a major in philosophy and a minor in French. She lived peripatetically after college, returning to France as a nanny, living for a while in Scotland, transplanting to Boston, and eventually, in 1998, settling in Rappahannock County, where she invested much energy on causes in which she believed. She was passionate about macrobiotic nutrition, alternatives to mainstream medicine, avoiding radiation, right-wing politics, and caring for her pets. She read voraciously.
She was pre-deceased by her father. She is survived by her mother, who resides in Woodville, and two siblings, Leland Price of Los Angeles and Bonnie Price Lofton of Ruckersville.
