Help us celebrate Curtis! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Curtis.
Curtis Wayne Walker was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 24, 2021, at 12:08 am.
Curtis was born on August 12, 1940 in Loraine, Texas to Robert Curtis Walker and Lula Palmer Walker. He attended schools in Siver and Robert Lee, Texas. Curtis married Cleora Annice Gartman on July 18, 1959 in Robert Lee, TX. They moved to San Angelo in 1960 and started their family. They had three sons, Douglas Wayne, Robert Earl, and James Kevin. Curtis and Annice were married for 62 years.
Curtis retired after 30 years with K-Mart and started ranching in Coke County. After tending cows and fixing fences, he decided he needed to go back to work and became the park caretaker for Coke County at Robert Lee and retired again after 12 years. Curtis was a volunteer for the Robert Lee Volunteer Fire Department for many years, as well as being a driver on the ambulance. He continued ranching and raising cows until his death. He served as a deacon for many years at Lake View Baptist Church in San Angelo and enjoyed driving the youth on ski trips. He loved going to watch his grandkids and great grandkids compete in their various sports and activities, as well as camping with family and Sundowner RV Club friends throughout the year.
Curtis was a quiet man, never drawing attention to himself. While he wasn't a man of many words, when he spoke it was something worth listening to. He was a hard worker and instilled his work ethic in his sons. He would rather be outside working with his hands than be stuck inside. He was fair, honest, and his word was his bond. His quiet strength and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Lula Walker, sister Wanda Caulder, brother Bobby Walker, his son Douglas Walker, and his grandson Stephen Cantrell. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Annice Walker, his two sons Robert Walker, Kevin Walker and wife Jennifer, grandchildren Lashelle Childress and husband Michael, Hallie Walker, and Hunter Walker, two great grandsons Dakota Martindale and Keirdan Sherman, one brother Donald Walker and wife Janis, all of San Angelo, along with many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be Tuesday, October 26th from 2:00-7:00 pm, with Family Visitation from 6:00-7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Robert Lee Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 27th at 1:00 pm, followed by a graveside service at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, where he will be laid to rest beside his son, Doug. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Childress, Hunter Walker, Dakota Martindale, Keirdan Sherman, Buddy Caulder, and Dave Walker.
