Currie Lee Meyer, 91, of Humble, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.
Lee was born on January 3, 1931, the son of the late Gertie (Gross) and Lee Henry Meyer.
He graduated in 1949 from Columbus High School and completed his B.A. in 1953 at Stephen F. Austin State University. Lee received his Master's Degree and PhD while attending East Texas State University.
He served honorably in the United State Navy from 1953 to 1957 attaining the officer rank of lieutenant, Jr grade. After returning from military service, Lee met the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Hopper and they married on July 19, 1957. The couple was blessed to have two children and shared 64 years together.
In addition to being an outstanding high school and college football player, Lee was a Golden Glove boxer. As a young man, Lee was a Boy Scout and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He then helped his son to achieve the Eagle Scout Award. Lee had a lifelong calling to be in education. He was a coach, math teacher, college professor, assistant superintendent, and superintendent.
He loved his family, the outdoors, dogs, sports, hunting, fishing, camping, golf, barbeque and a challenge! Lee was known to be very industrious and mechanical. He took it upon himself to build a lake house for his family in his younger years and enjoyed restoring tractors and dune buggies.
One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his granddaughters! As their Opa, he taught them how to garden, catch fish and even shoot a trophy buck!
He is survived by son, Gregory Lee Meyer and wife Donna, of Austin, TX; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Meyer of Houston, TX; brother, Earl Henry Meyer and wife Jenny of Caldwell, TX; granddaughters, Mackenzie Meyer Kleinert and husband, Tyler, Avery Meyer, and Madeleine Meyer of Dallas, TX and two great grandsons: Jack and Parker Kleinert; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents: Lee and Gertie Meyer; loving wife, Mary; sisters: Ruby Lois Woodfin and husband, Bill and Leila Joyce Meyer; father and mother-in-law: Clifford and Lois Hopper.
On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, a visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at West End Baptist Church in Industry, TX. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., with fellowship and lunch after the service. A graveside service will be held following the reception at 2:30 p.m. at the New Ulm, Texas Cemetery, on Hwy. 109.
