Mr. Coy Brooks
August 22, 1940 - May 3, 2024
Mr. Coy Brooks, age 83, of New Tazewell, TN, was born August 22, 1940, and went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted member and deacon at Sunrise Baptist Church.
Coy's life was a testament to his unwavering belief in the Lord. He consistently testified that prayer changes things, and his faith guided him through life. Whether he was working in the yard or casting a line while fishing, Coy found joy in God's creation. His unique character and infectious personality touched the lives of all who knew him, reflecting the love of Jesus.
As Coy's illness progressed, he often expressed his anticipation of going Home. Though our hearts ache with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that he has found eternal peace and has been reunited with his beloved wife of 60 years and best friend since 1st grade, Jewell M. Brooks, and son, Tracy Ancil Brooks, who preceded him in death.
Coy leaves behind a legacy of love and faith cherished by his surviving family: daughters Teresa Irvin and Joe Tortorice, Melissa and Steve Coffee, son Tony Brooks and Stephanie; grandchildren Matthew Brooks, Lucas Brooks, and Brooke Byrd and Chris; great-grandchildren Johnathan, Emberlee, and Brayden Byrd; brother J.D. McBee and wife Bea of Monroe, Michigan; sisters Venita Edmonds of Dandridge, Tennessee, and Lorean Anderson of Knoxville, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 5 PM until 7 PM at the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will commence at 7 PM, officiated by Reverend Sam Griffin. The obituary will be read by Christopher Byrd, and a heartfelt eulogy will be delivered by Brooke Byrd.
In honor of Coy's life, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart.
