Brummel, Cornelia "Connie" 6/11/1938 - 7/19/2022 Holland Cornelia "Connie" Brummel, age 84, of Holland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Resthaven Care Center. Connie was a child of the covenant, prayer warrior, prayer partner and longtime member of Fourteenth Street Christian Reformed Church. She was a life-long educator who taught at Oakdale Christian, Dearborn Christian, Red Bank (NJ) Regional HS, Holland Christian, and was director of CASA of Hope College. She volunteered as a docent at the Holland Museum, served on both the Calvin College Board of Trustees and Alumni Board, and the Christian Schools International Foundation Board. She never stopped encouraging her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other people's children. She loved water skiing (until age 70) berry picking, entertaining guests, traveling and memorizing poems with her grandchildren. Connie was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Evelyn Moenich; and brother-in-law, Bert deVries. Connie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roger Brummel; daughters, Brenda (Paul) Katerberg of Holland, Sari (Jon) Swets of Rockford, Jean (Paul) Nelson of Holland; grandchildren, Derek (Laura) Katerberg, Alyssa (Matt) Kraker, Emily (Rick) Buteyn, Jordan (Maddie) Swets, Ivy Nelson, Isaac Nelson; great grandchildren, Emmett Katerberg, Rory Katerberg, Greta Buteyn; siblings, Sally deVries of Grand Rapids, Pat (Terry) Hammink of Minneapolis, MN, Peter (Laurel) Northouse of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Brummel Barber of Marquette, MI. A memorial service is planned for 1:00 pm Saturday, July 23, at Fourteenth Street Christian Reformed Church, 14 W 14th St. Holland. Rev. Norman Steen will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Grand Rapids. Visitation is scheduled for 4:00 -7:00pm Friday, July 22 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E 16th St., Holland. Memorial contributions may be made to Holland Christian Schools, CASA of Hope College, and Mission India.
