Billy Graham said, "Life is a glorious opportunity, if it is used to condition us for eternity. If we fail in this, though we succeed in everything else, our life will have been a failure."
Conrad James Menconi saw life as a glorious opportunity. He never met a stranger, talked to everyone and always invited them to church.
Conrad passed from this life that he embraced on January 29, 2021.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 9, 1932, the oldest son of James and Ann Menconi. He moved with his family to California in 1943. He graduated from Alhambra High in 1950. He served in the Navy from 1951-1952. He worked at Sears and graduated from Pasadena Nazarene College (PLNU) in 1957. He earned his Masters in Education Administration from USC in 1965.
Conrad sweet-talked the beautiful Betty Sue Whiteside when they were both working at Sears in Pasadena and they were married August 15, 1959. They were married for 50 years until her passing. They were blessed with three children, Denise, Celeste, and Jeffrey.
Conrad was a born storyteller and teacher and shared his gifts with many students. He taught school in Fremont, Orange County, and Valley Springs, CA. He also was an administrator, serving as a vice-principal and principal. He was a superintendent in Warner Springs. He retired from education and began a new career in real estate when the family moved to Escondido.
Not one to ever sit still, Conrad volunteered in every community in which he lived. He coached sports, was involved in the Lions Club, and served on baseball boards, and booster clubs.
He and Betty moved to Pahrump, Nevada in 1995. They joined the Methodist Church and made many wonderful friends. He helped to organize the rummage sale for many years.
He and Betty loved to travel, enjoying many trips across the country in their RV and visits to Europe, including his beloved Italy.
He met Juliah (Judy) Franklin in Pahrump and they were married in 2014. They both delighted in adventure and enjoyed their cruises, RV trips, and many other events.
Conrad was bold, passionate, and relished every moment. His energy and zest for life was contagious. He was the life of the party and every family gathering was made better because he was there.
Opinionated is a mild description of his personality. He loved well and loved big! He loved spumoni ice cream, pizelles, biscottis dunked in coffee, In 'N Out, The Hat pastrami, Philippe's and good Italian food!
He loved cars, collecting quite a few in his youth. He loved USC Football, Gospel Music, Costco trips, Westerns, getting a good deal on anything, and his train collection.
He loved Jesus, his family and his friends and he will be dearly missed! We are comforted because we know he is now loudly rejoicing with Jesus and we look forward to the day we will see him again!
Conrad is survived by his three children: Denise (John) Schouten, Celeste (Steve) Bradham and Jeff (Cathy) Menconi. He was so proud of his eight grandchildren and attended all their high school and college graduations and as many sporting events as possible. Matthew Schouten, Nicole Schouten, Connor (Tara) Bradham, Parker (Sara) Bradham, Preston Bradham (fiance Allison), Taylor Menconi, Anthony Menconi, and Michelle Menconi.
He was blessed with two great grandchildren: Forrest Bradham (Connor and Tara), Blake Bradham (Parker and Sara)
