Connie Lue Alfred, 85, beloved mother and grandmother of Longview, Texas sadly departed this world on Monday, February 5, 2024 after a long battle with dementia, and a short stay in the hospital on a ventilator.
Born in to a hard life on December 4, 1938 to mother, Winnie Brazzil and father, Clovis McCollum, Connie took life by the reigns at the young age of twelve, working at a "greasy spoon (diner)" in Longview, beginning her love for cooking that would turn in to a career. This was to help her family survive, and to save money for her very first purchase, a cedar chest that she spoke fondly of, and still has to this day.
At the age of nineteen, Connie met the love of her life, Charles "Charlie" Alfred, whom she was married to for forty-three wonderful years before his passing in the year 2000. Connie is survived by her brother Pat McCollum and his wife, Jean, daughter, Sharon Johnston, son, Scott Alfred, granddaughters Sheridan Johnston and Alyssa Alfred, grandson Jacob Alfred, great-grandson, Kayson, and several nieces and nephews.
Connie worked hard in life, and was always on the go, whether she was working at Dari Creme, flourishing in her cafeteria managerial position at Forest Park Middle School (23 years of service) followed by several years at Super 1 Foods; or at home working in her yard, sewing mumus for friends and family, gambling at the casinos, baking her amazing "chocolate chipper" cookies, or cooking a delicious meal.
With a feisty spirit, and a no-nonsense personality, Connie still had a soft side and would do anything for those she loved. She came in to this world fighting for a better life, that she was able to live out to the fullest, and she left peacefully.
No services will be held. Burial will be at Rosewood Park Cemetery in Longview. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice under her name.
