COLIN CAMPBELL DICKSON died on May 21, 2022, at the age of 84 from complications of dementia in Fort Collins, CO. He was born on March 5, 1938, in Philadelphia, Penna. Dr. Dickson graduated from Amherst College, and earned MS and PhD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. He is an Emeritus Professor of French at Washington College, in Chestertown MD having taught there for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Col. and Mrs. Benjamin A. Dickson of Paoli PA, his brother William D. S. Dickson of Phoenixville PA, and his sister Ariana Dickson Mangum of Chapel Hill NC. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Janice Lind, his daughter Erica Dickson (Keith Hupperts), stellar grandchildren Eleanor Hupperts and Nicholas Hupperts, loyal sister-in-law Karin Lind of Philadelphia PA, seven nieces and nephews and many family members and friends who loved him dearly.
During his life he wore many hats including fly fisherman, gallery-displayed photographer, research physicist, Chester River crabber, scholar, hunter of edibles, jazz musician, geological rock collector, mycologist, and enjoyer of flora, fauna, the sky and all nature. Colin Dickson was a gentlemanly, thoughtful person. He was kind, helpful and discerning. He will be remembered as an intellectual in the best sense of the word. Those who remember Colin will always feel the void he leaves.
