Mr. Coile Franklin Scarborough, 86, (pictured here with his wife Sylvia on their wedding day) went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, March 7, 2021.
Mr. Scarborough was born in Athens, Georgia to Mary Hall and Jonie Scarborough on August 22, 1934.
Coile led an illustrious musical life including directing music at the First Baptist Church for many years. He was music director at Corner Stone Baptist Church until his retirement. Coile directed the Aiken Choral Society for many years. In the 60's and 70's he was a member of the Century Men, a group consisting of select music directors of Baptist Churches which has been described as the finest male chorus in America. Coile studied opera under Marjorie Lawrence at the School of Music at the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Under her tutelage, he performed the role of high priest Sarastro in Mozart's The Magic Flute.
Coile mentored many musicians and introduced many people to the joy of music. He was generous with his time and always cheerful and optimistic. Most of all Coile was devoted to Jesus Christ and was in faithful service to his Lord in every way. He loved people and he loved telling others of his faith.
A memorial service will be held at Shellhouse Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 16th, 2021, at 1:00pm.
He is survived by his children, Coile Franklin "Frankie" Scarborough, Jr., Orlando, FL; Suzanne Elaine "Suzy" Scarborough, Columbia, SC; David "Glenn" Scarborough, Hollywood, FL; granddaughters, Cody Maree Scarborough, NY City, Lauren Alexis Scarborough, Columbia, SC and Jessie Taylor Scarborough-Ghent, Minneapolis, MN and brother Ed Scarborough of Doraville, GA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Sexton Scarborough.
