William Carroll Davis, 89, of Lubbock, Texas passed away October 7, 2022.
Bill was born March 24, 1933 in Lubbock, TX to Jewell Davis and Elizabeth Davis. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1952; received his bachelor's degree from Rice University and his Master's Degree from Texas Tech University. Bill married Irma Hopp on April 6, 1962 in Lubbock, Texas at First Christian Church. Bill served as an educator as a teacher and coach at Atkins Junior High School; during his time as a coach, he mentored and touched the lives of countless students and athletes. He retired in 1991. Bill and his family owned and operated Camp Davis in New Mexico from 1939 to present as a boy's camp, girl's camp, and family camp. Within this time, Bill, created and fostered lasting generational relationships. Bill was a lifetime member of First Christian Church serving as a deacon and elder for many years.
Loved ones include his wife, Irma Davis; son, Guy Davis and wife, Lisa; daughter, Gay Rittenberry and husband, John; daughter, Gwen Davis; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Jewell and Elizabeth Davis; his daughter, Grete Davis; his grandson, Braxton Davis and his brothers, Johnny, Sam and Jerry Davis.
Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church.
Family visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Home Thursday, October 13, 2022, 6:00 to 7:30 PM. A celebration of his life will be 2:00 PM, Friday, October 14, 2022 in First Christian Church with Reverend Paul Carpenter officiating. Graveside services will follow in City of Lubbock Cemetery.
