On Sunday, December 20, 2020, Clifton William Hammon, 76, of Florence, Arizona, passed away with his wife, Linda, by his side.
Born in Easton, Maryland on September 30, 1944, he was the son of the late Frederick Robert Hammon Sr. and Ruth Denny Hammon of Newcomb, MD.
Due to the loss of his father and maternal grandfather at a very young age, the Newnam family of St. Michaels took him in and raised him like a son of their own. Another special family that influenced his upbringing and which he thought a lot of, was Mr. and Mrs. Elwood and Sara Josephine "Tootles" Harrison of St. Michaels. Both families meant the world to him!
After leaving school in St. Michaels, he served a term in the U.S. Army. Following his term in the Army, he worked in the St. Michaels Acme Market as a butcher for many years, alongside a very close family friend and supervisor, Norman Roe. He was also a member of the St. Michaels volunteer fire company for several years, alongside of many friends.
In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors: fishing, hunting, and soft crabbing with family and friends. He also enjoyed going out hand tonging for oysters with an Uncle, James "Happy" Barrow, in the 70's.
After the early 1980's, he made his home in various places of the country including Georgia, Alaska, Kansas, Texas, and finally retiring in Arizona. He and his wife Linda spent many years living on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. There he worked for his brother, Fred, for quite a few years at the Chevron "Y" gas station where he loved plowing snow and going out on wrecker calls. He also worked for a company up on the North Slope for a while.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Fred Robert Hammon Jr., a sister Ruth Hammon, and a half-brother George Ellison, Jr.
He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 33 years, Linda Hammon; his two sons, Trevor Hammon and wife (Holly) of Bozman, MD; Travis Hammon and wife (Tonya) of Royal Oak, MD; a stepson Bobby Earl and wife (Misty) McCown of Soldotna, AK; four grandchildren Colby Hammon, Madison Hammon, Logan Hammon, Ashton Hammon; a half-brother Sonny, and two half-sisters: Libby and Mary; a step grandson Chris McCown and a step granddaughter Marlana McCown, and a great granddaughter Raelynn Hammon. As well as a few special nieces and nephews, a sister-n-law Gloria Hammon, longtime friends Lee and Helen Olsen, and many others from Kansas, Texas , Arizona, and Alaska.
He will be greatly missed by many!
