Clifford Earle Matthews, Sr. 82 of Worton, MD passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on April 17, 2022.
Cliff was born on August 18, 1939 in Neptune, NJ, son of the late Lester and Althea Shafto Matthews. He was raised in New Jersey until he and his wife purchased a farm in Worton, a dairy farm selling the cows in 1984. Cliff operated a backhoe service, started a seed cleaning service for area farmers and also operated a sawmill.
He was a member of Worton United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed spending time, helping with the maintenance of the buildings, grass mowing and the Thursday night Prayer meeting group.
Cliff enjoyed hunting, farm equipment auctions, riding his motorcycle and horses, caring for his vegetable garden and animals and spending time on his farm and with his family.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Lee Dey; a brother Carlton F. Matthews and grandson Doug Bigelow.
Cliff was married to the love of his life for 60 years, Carol Megill Matthews; children, Clifford E. 'Kip' Matthews, Jr. (Monica) of Centreville, MD, Kenneth W. Matthews, Sr. (Laura) of Kennedyville,, Cherie Lynn Bedwell (Tom) of Betterton and Julie Jean Bedwell (Herman) of Still Pond; a brother Lester R. Matthews of New Jersey; 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 24 from 6 to 8 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, Galena, MD where the funeral service will be held on Monday, April 25 at 11 am. Burial in Union Cemetery, Worton, MD.
