Clayton was born to John J. and Jennie O. Carr in Hotchkiss, CO, the youngest of three children. Their family later moved to Ruth, Nevada for work. Clay graduated from White Pines High School. He returned to Grand Junction to attend Mesa College. He met the love of his life at Copelands Drug Store, Virginia D. Smith, in downtown Grand Junction. They were married September 18, 1941 and were together for 60 years. She precedes him in death, along with his parents, brother and sister. He died peacefully at home, snoring one moment and quiet the next.
He is survived by daughters, Carol (Wayne) Bradbury, Jenine Silence Carr, Karen Murch and Lora (Rick) Franklin; 8 grandchildren, Justin and Jeremy Silence, Randy and Ryan Franklin, Jared and Kody Murch, and Jayme Hubbard, and Ciara Bradbury; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He worked for Climax Uranium in Grand Junction for many years in accounting and was mowing the grass at Adobe Creek Golf Course up until 2 summers ago at the age of 89.
He had the bluest eyes and the best little chuckle and such a giving, loving spirit. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He will always be in our hearts.
A graveside service will be held at New Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita on Saturday, April 10 at 1PM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to HopeWest in Grand Junction. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at HopeWest for their tender care of our Poppa to the very end.
