Claudette Ruth Moores 73, a lifelong resident of Skagit Valley, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at her home after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born at the old Burlington Hospital in Burlington, WA, on January 9, 1949 to the late Kenneth M. White and Kathryn M. (Moors) Severson.
Claudette was raised in Bow, WA, until moving to Sunset Lane in Mount Vernon in 1955. She attended schools in Mount Vernon, graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1968.
On April 11, 1969 she married Stephen Moores, MVHS class of 1967 and they spent over 53 years together.
In June 1969, Steve entered the US Air Force and was sent to Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Claudette followed in December so that she and Steve could spend their first Christmas together. While stationed in Germany, they traveled all around Europe, visiting places that they had only read about. Two daughters were born while in Germany, Vicki in September 1970 and Tami in November 1972. Upon Steve's discharge in 1973, they returned to Mount Vernon where another daughter, Traci, joined the family in 1975.
They built their first home just east of Skagit Valley Hospital in the fall of 1973. In 1977 they got the itch to get out of town. They sold their home, bought a small piece of property south of Conway, built a new house and raised their family.
Through Steve's passion for genealogy and his research, Claudette had the privilege of becoming a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, both very honorable memberships.
Claudette was a foster mother to over 30 foster children over the years and also a much loved daycare mom. She was a good friend to many and never had a bad word to say about anyone, always trying to find the good in everyone. She was a great mom, loving Nana and great friend to everyone.
Although Alzheimer's disease began to rob her of some of her memories at an early age, Claudette never lost her feistiness or sense of humor.
Claudette is survived by her husband, Steve of the family home; three daughters, Vicki Moores of Burlington, Tami (Kevin) Delisle and Traci Moores of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Jo Ellen (Steve) Hoag of Stanwood and Connie Severson of Bellingham; seven grandchildren, Jordan Moores-Outland, Elijah and Ethan Moores, Courtnee Butler, Bradin Harrison, all of Mount Vernon, Kyle (Maria) Delisle of Granite Falls, Cole Delisle of Lynnwood; one great granddaughter; mother-in-law, Arlea Meyer of Mount Vernon. She is also survived by a foster son, Jim Thorn of Spokane, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sister, Debbie (Severson) Aldrich and one grandson, James Moores-
Butler.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, 1:00 PM at Mount Vernon Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Hospice if the Northwest for the compassionate care they provided to Claudette.
