Claude Murphy Martin, Jr., age 98, passed away on February 22, 2022 at his home in Sylvania, Georgia. He was born on July 20, 1923 to Lola Bradley Martin and Claude Murphy Martin in Gastonia, NC. He served in the 86th Infantry Division in WW II, and after returning home, attended North Carolina State. After college, he worked for Pontiac Motor Division for over 30 years, retiring as Zone Manager in 1987. Upon retirement, Murph moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he resided until 2017. He spent his last years in Sylvania, Georgia, living near his daughter and her family. Murph loved cars, and enjoyed attending the Daytona 500. In his later years, he still loved watching any kind of car race on television. His other passion was golf, which he greatly enjoyed during retirement. At age 90, he scored a hole-in-one on the Ocean Course at Ponte Vedra Golf Club. Murph was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hord Martin, in 1993, and by his siblings, Ralph Pinkney Martin, Jacqueline Martin Holbrook, and Molly Martin Parker. Survivors include his son, John Murphy Martin (Melne) of Parkland, Florida, and his daughter, Claudia Martin Frankhouser (John); his beloved grandchildren, Brittany Frankhouser Smith (Casey), Jack Frankhouser (Katie), Murphy Frankhouser; and great-grandchildren Jackson Frankhouser, Sutton Frankhouser and Elena Smith. A private funeral service will be held at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Sylvania, Georgia, and interment at Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
