Just a few words used to describe Claude Irving Fox, a wonderful man that loved God and his family well and will be missed by many.
Claude Irving Fox was born April 30, 1931, in Burlington, Washington. He met the love of his life Vera Morgan in 1947. He asked her out for the first time with a box of chocolates on Valentines Day. Claude and Vera were married in 1951 at Hillcrest Park in Mount Vernon, Washington. They began holding hands 71 years ago and never stopped.
Claude was drafted into the United States Army in 1952. After bootcamp at Fort Lewis, Washington, Claude was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where eldest son, Jim was born. After two years in the Army, Claude and Vera moved back to the Pacific Northwest. They spent time in Everett and Marysville, added children Larry, Debbie and Rick to the family and then settled in Stanwood. During this time Claude worked at Boeing but eventually settled into the physically demanding work of logging. This must be where the toughness Claude's grandkids remember came from! In 1978, Claude started a new career with the Stanwood school district and eventually retired in 1996.
Claude was known throughout Stanwood for his legendary garden. From fruits and veggies to flowers his garden was admired by all. To this day the amazing garden is still talked about with awe around town. The garden provided flowers which Claude planted and picked and Vera arranged for their church as well as an abundant harvest for canning. (Best green beans ever!) Claude was an active member and deacon in the Cedar Home and Arlington Seventh Day Adventist churches. He was known for his kindness, and it is not an exaggeration to say that if you met Claude, you immediately liked him. Once you got to know Claude, you grew to love him dearly. He also had a mischievous streak and liked to play tricks and have goofy fun with grandchildren and great grandchild - who he adored.
Claude is survived by his wife Vera, sons Jim (Cyndi), Larry (Wendy), Debbie (EllRoy) and Rick (Lezlie). Grandchildren Jimmy, Chad, Matt, Kristi, Kyle, Maresha and Ryan. Great-grandchildren Nick, Blake, Kailey, Dillon, Amerann, Quenby, Pike, Holiday, Ava, Ethan, Judah and Elisha. Siblings Ramona, Gerald, Delbert and Kay and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Claude's name to the Everett Gospel Mission.
