Clark Edward Taggart, age 65, of Williamsburg, VA, died Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Sentera Regional Medical Center, Williamsburg. Born March 28, 1956 in Olney, MD he was the son of the late Hugh Thomas Taggart and Rachael Gonzales Taggart.
Clark had an interest in gardening and floral design from his earliest years. He was active in the 4-H Clubs' youth programs and later held a job at Carroll Gardens in Westminster, MD while working on jobs around the family farm. He graduated from Francis Scott Key High School in Carroll County, MD in 1974. After graduation he began attending the Longwood Gardens training program in Kennett Square, PA. In 1977 in was accepted and enrolled in a Longwood Gardens exchange program with Threave School of Gardening in Castle Douglas, Scotland, receiving several scholarships from various Scottish-American organizations. He graduated Threave in 1979 and returned to Longwood Gardens, then was offered a position in Virginia with Colonial Williamsburg in 1980. In 1985 he accepted a floral designer position in Virginia with Colonial Williamsburg which led to many interviews with newspapers and TV. He also traveled to various flower clubs and gardening groups across the MD-VA-NY area to give demonstrations of his art and work in Williamsburg. Clark retired from Colonial Williamsburg and began pursuing his other passion of collecting and selling antiques at the Antique Mall in Williamsburg. He continued floral arranging at the Flower Cupboard, also in Williamsburg.
Surviving are sister, Anne Louise Taggart of Annapolis; brothers, Richard Patterson Taggart and George Michael Taggart and wife Joanne, all of New Windsor and Hugh Thomas Taggart Jr. and wife Linda of Dagsboro, DE, and 7 nephews and 3 nieces.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday, October 15 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, with Rev. Fr. Leandro Fazolini as celebrant. Interment followed in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near New Windsor.
There will be a memorial service in Williamsburg at a future date.
