Clarence D. Spence, age 67, made his transition on July 2, 2011. Born in Newark and a former resident of California and Plainfield before residing at JFK Hartwyck in Edison. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a truck driver with Strawcon Consolidating.
Beloved son of Lucy (Russoniello) and Clarence H. Spence. Beloved father of Renard Mack (Nancy), Emily Spence (Kathy), Clarence Spence (Clarissa), Michelle Spence, Cherayne Ilawole (Enny), Jason Williams, and Malik Cave.
Dear brother of Bishop Roland (Marcia), Gertrude Snell, Patricia Kimbro, Marilyn Billings (Samuel), and Grace Saunders (Howard). Also survived by six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9 until the celebration of his life at 11 a.m. at Whigham Funeral Home, 580 Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Blvd., Newark. Interment in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Lung Association National Headquarter, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004 or a charity of your choice.
