Clarence James Davenport, 72, of Lawndale, NC, passed away Nov. 14, 2004 after a short battle with lung cancer. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 17 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Haley's Grove Cemetery in Crab Orchard. Glen Davenport officiated.
Mr. Davenport was born Aug. 17, 1932 in Crossville, the son of Talmadge and Della Barnwell Davenport.
He was a construction worker.
Survivors include his sons, Melvin Davenport Sr. of Shelby, NC, David and Scott Davenport of Lawndale, NC; daughters, Janie Davenport of Carencro, LA, Sharon Thornton of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Debbie Pooley of Ridgeville, OH and Terry Cook of Lawndale, NC; brothers and sisters, Charles Davenport of Crossville, Earl Davenport of Michigan, Carl Davenport of Rockwood, Maezell Scarlett of Crossville, Neoma Morgan of Morgan County, James and Dwayne Davenport of Crossville, Candie Bowman of North Carolina and Tammie Goddard of Crossville; grandchildren, Melvin Davenport Jr., Adam Davenport, Charity Davenport, Richard David Davenport Jr., Star Pooley, John Pooley, Justin Pooley, Sarah Pooley, Shannon Hamper, Shawn Hamper, Lacey Hamper, and Jayma Dawn Davenport and Jimmy Markling, both of Lawndale, NC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, Erbie and Woodrow Davenport; and grandson, Louis Markling.
Pallbearers were Clifford Waldo, Gary Blaylock, Timmy Blaylock, Jackie Blaylock, Richard Boles and Bruce Boles.
Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
