The Honorable Claire Green Fallon, 87 of Gastonia and Charlotte, North Carolina passed away on February 27th, 2022. Claire was born on November 14th, 1934 to Henry and Dorothy Green in Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Rockland County, New York. Claire was predeceased by her beloved husband, Timothy Jerome Francis Fallon, parents Henry and Dorothy Green, Madeline Green and Ruth Green Doukas. Claire was the loving mother of four children, Lauren and Michael Angle, Hilary Fallon and Randall Scott, Jonathan Fallon, and Melinda and Gary Hart. She was thrilled to be a grandmother to Harrison Angle, Sarah Angle, Fallon Scott, and Cole Scott. She was also a cat mom to Bella and Shadow.
Claire started her career as an interior designer and was always surrounded by beautiful things. Claire and Timothy founded the North Side Montessori School in New York when her children's school went bankrupt. While living in multiple New York communities, Claire found her calling as a civic and community advocate always "there for the people."
Claire started her community activism while working for New York Mayor, John Lindsay and then became a Chairman of the Anti Defamation League in Kew Gardens. While living in Kew Gardens, she became a founding member of the Kew Gardens Improvement Association. Once she moved to Holliswood, she became a spokesperson and President of Holliswood Civic Association.
Claire began her civic duty in Charlotte when she moved to North Carolina in 2001. She started as the President of Legacy at Davis Lake Homeowners Association and then became the founder and President of the NorthEast Coalition, an alliance of multiple University City area neighborhoods. As she worked with friends, neighborhood associations, and local politicians, she was appointed to several government boards including the Committee of 21, Charlotte City Councils Housing Trust Fund Advisory Board, the Executive Board of Mixed-Income Housing Coalition, and the Charlotte Planning Commission.
Claire called her husband "the wind beneath her wings." The two were married in 1967 and their love story continued to grow. After his passing in 2010, Claire decided to run for Charlotte City Council. When she won the At-Large seat, Claire was both the oldest and the first Jewish woman to sit on the council. She always wanted to do what was best for Charlotte regardless of political ideologies. She spoke her mind, always advocated for the people of Charlotte, and always had your back!
Among Claire's many accomplishments, she was named one of Charlotte's 50 most influential women and was inducted into the Women's History Hall of Fame for her outstanding accomplishments and untiring work in the community. Community involvement is what meant so much to her.
Claire moved to Gastonia, North Carolina in 2019 and could not go without any type of civic duty to her community. Even at 86, she quickly found the Gaston City Planning Board and was recently appointed for another three years on the board.
Claire may have barely been five feet tall but she was a feisty and outspoken woman who loved a challenge. "Everything is an adventure, life is an adventure!" We love you, we will miss you, what a legacy, what a life!
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens in Charlotte, NC.
