Christopher Baker
Help us celebrate Christopher! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Christopher.
Christopher (Chris) Scott Baker (6-16-65) has gone to live with his Lord and Savior on January 23,2024 after battling with melanoma cancer. Chris lived a full life serving the Lord and prioritizing his family. Chris was actively involved in his daughters, Anna (26) and Mary Caroline (23), daily lives and truly enjoyed their “fabulousness”. Kathy, his wife and best friend, were happily married 35 years. They laughed every day and knew how to have fun. His girls were his heart. Chris honored the Lord by prioritizing his family.
Chris attended University of Georgia and Valdosta State University where he obtained a Business Management degree and an MBA. Chris, and his wife Kathy, moved from Athens, GA to Beaufort, South Carolina 25 years ago for his job as a financial advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors. The Lowcountry quickly became home, and where they raised their two daughters.
During his life, Chris served the Lord in many ways. While living in Athens and Beaufort, Chris also served on Finance and Stewardship Committees, in church leadership roles, and taught adult and youth Christian education classes. As a member of the Parish Church of St. Helena, Chris found strength and friendship through his weekly men’s small group Bible study. Over the years, this group of men became not only friends, but dear brothers.
Over the years Chris was actively involved in Sea Island Rotary Club where he served many years on various committees and fundraisers. During his term as President, Chris initiated the inaugural Sea Island Rotary Club Shrimp Race, which has continued to provide funding for local and national charities annually.
Chris enjoyed boating and woodworking in his free time. He loved fishing with family and friends and building furniture. Every fall Saturday, however, he was either at Sanford Stadium (or there in spirit) cheering on his beloved Bulldogs! Chris had a personality that warmed a room, made others feel welcome and brought a laugh to all those around. Chris is the son of the late Jerry Baker, and Marcia B. Benford, of Sylvester, GA. He is survived by his mother and sister, Lisa (Carey) James of Cumming, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that a donation be made in Chris’ memory to St. Helena’s Anglican Church, Sea Island Rotary Club, American Cancer Society or any charitable organization of choice.
A celebration of life service will be held on February 3, 2024 at 10am at the Parish Church of Saint Helena, Beaufort.
