Christine A. St. John, 79, a resident of Chester Knoll Drive, passed away Friday, October 25, 2024 at Crescent Manor Nursing Home. Christine was born in Norwalk, CT on June 3, 1945, the daughter of the late Christopher and Mary (Sawyer) Cassano. She attended St. Frances Academy in Bennington, graduated from Bennington Catholic High School in 1963 and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, graduating from Bennington College in 1984. Christine owned and operated her own nursery school for many years and was a Corrections Officer for the State of Vermont for over 30 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the AAUW (American Association of University Women) and taught catechism at Sacred Heart Church for many years. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Maine and motorcycle rides with her husband Ed. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Christine is survived by her husband Edward St. John of Bennington, her son Edward St. John, Jr. (Kendra) of Spring Arbor, MI and her daughter Teri Armstrong (Tim) of Bennington; grandchildren Andrew St. John, Kelsey Whitman, Katelyn Hafner, Caleb St. John and Suzanne St. John; and great-grandchildren Tucker and Emma. She was preceded in death by her siblings Rocco, Joseph, Mary Carmela, Sylvio, Mary C., Palma, Angelo, and Stella. A Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 11am at Sacred Heart St. Frances de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Bennington. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 3-6pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT. Interment will be private.
