Christine Perez, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at her home surrounded by family on May 11, 2022. She lived a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and most importantly family & friends. Christine was always present to support her loved ones in any way she could. Her loving husband, Fernando, adored and supported her throughout their 56 years of marriage. Together they raised their three children: Steve, Stephanie, and Sandy while encouraging them to follow their dreams.
Christine was born in Oxnard, California to Virginia and Robert Hernandez in 1944 and graduated from Oxnard High School in 1962. She worked for the Oxnard Elementary School District as a teacher's aide but then would later work and retire as a district manager for Avon for over 30 years. Due to her success at Avon, she was rewarded with many wonderful and memorable trips around the world which enabled her to travel with her colleagues and experience new places and cultures. After her retirement in 2005, she enjoyed spending time with her precious grandchildren as well as traveling with her girlfriends and husband to many destinations.
Christine had many interests that she picked up throughout her life. One of them was the appreciation for her familial ancestry. She enjoyed reliving her roots along Ventura County, especially taking her children and grandchildren to her and Fernando's childhood homes as well as her grandfather's ranch in Thousand Oaks. She wanted to make sure that the family would be able to pass on such stories to future generations. She was also amazing at documenting her family's memories. You could always find Christine taking photos and then adding them to her obscene amount of family albums (which her family will cherish). She also had a natural talent of organization and design which was apparent in her home. But more importantly, Christine was her family's number one fan. You would always find her sitting at every sporting event or performance to support her children and grandchildren.
One of her enjoyments was exploring new places which allowed her to experience the city's museums, local architecture and the people. She enjoyed learning about the history of her new destination. During her travels, her passion was finding unique dining experiences in which she would share with her loved ones. This love was passed on to her family.
Throughout the year, Christine would spend long periods of time at their family seaside oasis in Estero Beach, Mexico. She loved to explore the beautiful wineries as well as talking to the locals. During her time in Mexico, she enjoyed the majestic sunsets with her husband, Estero friends, live music, and a nice glass of wine.
Faith was the cornerstone of who Christine was. Her Catholic faith was a priority and she always made sure to attend church weekly. She was a member of Santa Clara Parish for over 50 years although enjoyed fellowship at other parishes even when she traveled abroad.
Christine is preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Robert Hernandez. She is survived by her doting (to the end) husband, Fernando, her three children: son, Steve Perez, wife, Yvette, grandchild, Chase Perez; daughter Stephanie Caldera, husband, Rick, grandchildren, Hailey and Kaitlin Moreno; daughter, Sandy Sloan, husband, Mitchel, and grandchildren, Jonah and Noah Sloan.
She is survived by her beloved sisters Rita Herzstein and Dianne Rivera, and brother, Bobby Hernandez.
Christine will always be remembered and be celebrated even after her passing. The light might have dimmed but the light will always remain lit.
The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Sam Slomowitz, the nurses at UCLA Health Westlake Village and Community Memorial as well as Dana Herron for their tireless efforts.
A rosary will be held at Santa Clara Mortuary on June 15th from 6-7 p.m. and funeral services will be held at Santa Clara Catholic Church on June 16th from 10-11 a.m.
