Christal Lee Brannon Calhoun was born 4/28/1950 and died at age 72 on 6/23/2022 after a prolonged battle with breast cancer. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Jerrell P. Calhoun at age 69, on 8/24/2016 after 49 years of marriage. Christal leaves two grown children, Clint Calhoun and Sonya Calhoun Wilson (Rodney) and 5 grandchildren, Brandy Calhoun McCraw (Tom), Jay Calhoun, Andrew Yeomans (Jennifer), Logan Hernandez, and Courtland Hernandez. Christal had also been blessed with 8 great grandchildren, Mayson Yeomans, Marquis Simmons, Bella Pangallo, Riley Yeomans, Chandler Hernandez, Payton Hernandez, Norah Hernandez, and Tucker Hernandez. Christal has 9 siblings, four of which have already passed on, which were Barbara Brannon Street, Paul (Sonny) Brannon, Charles (Chuck) Brannon and Candler (Candy) Brannon. Christal leaves siblings Nelta Brannon Meiller, Ray Brannon, Frank Brannon, Ellison Brannon and Richard Brannon to mourn her loss. Christal and Jerrell lived the majority of their married life in Chamblee when they decided to sell their home in 2014 and move to Oxford, Georgia to live closer to Sonya. Ultimately after a decline in Christal's health, Sonya & Rodney decided to welcome Christal's move into their home so they help to could care for her. Christal and Jerrell maintained active membership in the F.O.E. Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Doraville, Georgia for nearly 30 years. Christal worked at Chamblee High School for 20 years as a baker. Christal and Jerrell both chaired a variety of offices with Jerrell also serving as President. Jerrell's memorial service was conducted at their Auxiliary in Doraville. Christal loved her grand children and great grandchildren and also her flowers. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 1 pm in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.. This obituary was lovingly prepared and placed by the family.
