Chester Gibbs Dalzell, 87, of Palm Coast, FL, and a native of Pittsfield and Richmond, MA, passed away at his home following an illness. He was with his former wife and companion Marion DaFonte Dalzell at the time of his passing. He is survived by Marion, and his five children - Cheryl Ann Dalzell of Richmond, CA; Sandra Dalzell Staples of Ridgefield, CT; Chester Goodale Dalzell II of New York City, NY (of Marion); and Jeffrey Britton Dalzell and Timothy David Dalzell, both of Flagler Beach, FL (of his second wife, the late Anne Britton Dalzell). He is also survived by four grandchildren - Lindsey and Rory Gallagher of Bridgeton, NJ, and Ryan and Christopher Staples of Ridgefield, CT, among extended family members.
Born and raised in Pittsfield, MA, Chester was the second son of the former Gertrude Elsie Gibbs and David Rudolph Dalzell, Sr., and is also predeceased by his brother David Rudolph Dalzell, Jr.
"Chet" was graduated from Pittsfield High School and Clarkson University (Potsdam, NY). His career as an electrical engineer spanned nearly 50 years, where he held a patent for capacitors, and worked for Sprague Electric (North Adams, MA), TRW (Ogallala, NE), Arrowhead Enterprises (New Milford, CT), Dual-Lite, Inc. (Newtown, CT), American Can (Greenwich, CT), American Radionics (Danbury, CT, and Palm Coast, FL) and NWL, Inc. (Riviera Beach, FL). He loved skiing, tennis, vegetable gardens, boating and camping with family, Nebraska Cornhusker football, and later in life, took to birdwatching, tinkering in his workshop, and maintaining his home in Palm Coast.
Donations may be made to The Salvation Army (Pittsfield, MA, or Bunnell, FL), and burial will take place in Richmond Cemetery (Richmond, MA) on September 18 at 10:30 am EDT.
