Chester Bergen Jr., 91, of Rushville, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 1:45am. He was born on June 3, 1928 and is the son of Chester Charles and Ada Olive Brodie Bergen.
He was married in the parsonage of the late Reverend Grover C. Housman on December 7, 1952 to Virginia Lois Lykins in Connersville, Indiana.
Chester served with the United States Army as a truck driver during the Korean War, where he received two bronze stars. He was a member of the Connersville V.F.W. and American Legion Post#1.
He loved being outdoors and enjoyed working in the yard.
Chester is survived by his wife, Virginia; four sons, Virgil Lee Bergen Sr., of Glenwood, David Edward Bergen, of Connersville, Charles Patrick Bergen, of Rushville, and Harold Eugene Bergen, also of Rushville; five grandchildren, Virgil Lee Bergen Jr., of Camby, Jeremy James Bergen, of Springhill, FL, Jason Travis Pass, of Falmouth, Christy Michele Bergen, of Rushville, and Jennifer Lynn Bergen, of New Castle; eleven great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Gwendolyn Gail Dixon and granddaughter, Amy Melinda Sanders; six brothers, Robert Harold Bergen, Earl Allen Bergen, Lowell Barnard Bergen, George Walter Bergen, Lewis Edwin Bergen, and Leonard Phillip Bergen, as well as six sisters, Mabel Irene Brittenham, Pearl Maxine Williams, Ada Elizabeth Mitchem, Phyllis Jean Lennex, Audrey Pauline Bergen, and Charlotte Joy Bergen.
A graveside service with military burial honors presented by Fayette County Honor Guard will be at 12:30pm on Friday, April 10, 2020 in Orange North Cemetery.
