Chesler Wayne Berny, 74, was called home to the Lord on February 23, 2022. Wayne was born September 19, 1947, in Edinburg, Texas, to Bill and Annie Berny, one of nine children. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia; children, Cheryl Berny, Stephen Berny, and Paula (Keith) Hickle; and siblings Mary (Les) Rydl of Alamo, Charles (Jan) Berny of Boerne, Dottie (Mike) Fabian of McAllen, Billy (Jan) of Abilene, and Doug (Tracie) of Franklin, TN. Wayne was preceded in death by parents Bill and Annie, and siblings, Kenneth, Sonny, and Barbara. Wayne led a storied life. He drove a school bus while attending college, and then worked his way into management for Globe Department Stores where he was transferred to Shreveport, Louisiana, and subsequently met the love of his life, Patricia. He then worked in the oil field for Frank's Casing Crew and the Nueces County Sheriff's Department before going back to college to get his teaching certificate and Master's in Education. After 18 years in education, he retired and became an avid rancher. Wayne was an excellent husband and father. He was a devout Christian and a faithful member of the Boerne Church of Christ. As a man of few and many words, he was a great storyteller. He had a fondness for the outdoors, and loved being at the ranch raising his longhorn cattle. He loved all animals, especially his loyal dog and sidekick, Annabelle. Wayne's hobbies included woodworking, barbecuing, gardening, hunting, and fishing. He had a lust for life and never met a stranger. Wayne's life was full, and he left a legacy of love and a lifetime of experiences for family and friends he met along the way. Funeral services will be conducted on March 5, 2022, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Boerne Church of Christ in Boerne, Texas. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Boerne Cemetery.
