Cheryl Juanita Jones (Rivers) was born May 3rd 1945 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Kathryn Rivers.
She later moved with her family to Brooklyn NY where she was educated in the Brooklyn NY school system graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School.
It was in Brooklyn NY where Cheryl met and married her first husband and from that union gave birth to two daughters, Monica Y. Rivers and Patrece Rivers-Hines.
Cheryl and her new family moved to Paterson, NJ in the mid 1960’s where she became a mail handler for the Paterson Post Office.
She dedicated her life to raising her daughters and took pride in being able to send them to college to pursue their professional aspirations.
Cheryl loved helping others and even after her two daughters had finished school, she spent a lot of time tutoring other young children and beamed with pride seeing them become successful.
Cheryl was smart, talented, had a great sense of humor, loved being around people and enjoyed making them laugh and smile. She loved cooking, and took pride in watching people enjoy her food, never giving out her “Secret” ingredients.
Cheryl had a warm and friendly personality and would strike up a conversation with just about anyone.
She left her indelible mark on almost everyone she met.
Cheryl departed this life, Sunday June 5th 2022 at St Joseph’s Wayne Hospital.
She was predeceased by her second husband, Willie T. Jones; mother Kathryn Rivers; Grandmother Mildred Inez Spence; sibling Eleda M. Rivers.
Surviving to cherish her loving memories are her children Monica Y. Rivers, Patrece Rivers-Hines; siblings Tracy Rivers, Kennetha Rivers-Tindle; grandchildren; Ja’Twann Chappell, Brittany M. Colley, Anthony Jerome Hines Jr; great grandchildren Karter Chappell, Henry Diaz Jr., Tempis Alesha Hines, Isaiah Chappell; sons-in law James Chappell, Anthony Jerome Hines Sr., Henry Colley, Jose Colon Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
