Cheryl Boyer Hansen, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, after a courageous 14-year battle with Parkinson's disease. Born on June 13, 1952, to Fred H and Helen Barnes Boyer of Arco, Idaho, she was the fourth of six children in a nurturing home filled with love, laughter, and music. An accomplished flutist and dancer, Cheryl shone academically, graduating third in her high school class.
Her lifelong passion for music began at age eight when she started piano lessons. She excelled as a soloist and accompanist, performing for large audiences and receiving advanced training. During high school, she met Richard Hansen, a violinist, and they grew close through their shared love of music. After marrying in 1973, they both earned degrees in Music Education from BYU.
Cheryl treasured motherhood above all else, enduring the heartbreak of losing two infant sons before raising six children: Dallin, Richelle, Doug, Brad, Bryant, and Rebecca. She dedicated herself to nurturing their musical talents, teaching them piano and supporting their endeavors in music, with several pursuing it as a career. As a grandmother to 23, Cheryl created a joyful environment filled with laughter, music, and creativity.
The Hansens settled in Rexburg in 1975, where Cheryl continued her musical journey. Despite losing their first home in the Teton Dam disaster, they built a new home where Cheryl taught piano for over 40 years, guiding numerous students to success in music. She also taught at BYU-Idaho for 25 years and composed original music, including songs for each of the Latter-day prophets.
A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cheryl served in various leadership roles, exemplifying her faith throughout her life. Diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2010, she faced the challenges of her illness with grace and positivity, spending her final months in the Homestead Memory Care Unit, where her family appreciated the compassionate care provided.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Richard and their children: Dallin (Leslie) Hansen, Richelle (Bryce) Fawcett, Douglas (Jessica) Hansen, Bryant (Rachel) Hansen, Rebecca (Jason) Fredrick, 23 grandchildren, her siblings: Joyce (Bill) Bradford, Wayne (Sue) Boyer, Lyle (Alison) Boyer, Lynette (Todd) Williams, Ryan (Allison) Boyer. As well as many loving in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant sons, son-in-law, Craig Leavitt, and brother-in-law, Evan Ivie. Her legacy of love, music, and faith will be cherished by all who knew her.
