Charlotte Edna Gilyard, 87, of Exeter Township, PA went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 14, 2020 in Chestnut Knoll Nursing Home. She was the widow of Davis W. Gilyard, Sr., of Reading, who went home to the Lord on April 12, 2019. She was born in E. New Market, MD., on January 9, 1933 a daughter of the late Daniel J. and Frances E. (Farrow) Sampson. Charlotte graduated from St. Clair High School in 1949 where she participated in the drama program and gained the nickname "Shorty". Until her health began to fail, she was a dedicated member of the Bethel AME Church, Reading, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Senior Choir and the Beth'ls and a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church, now Faith United Methodist Church where she accepted Christ at an early age and participated in youth activities, especially the Brownettes Youth Choir. She was employed by Valley Forge Flag Co. in Womelsdorf as an assembler. Surviving is her brother, Allen L. Sampson of Edgewater, MD., grandson, Troy Culbertson of Salisbury, N.C., a special sister-in-law, Mildred Gilyard of Temple PA., and half-sister Bettye Best of Oakland, CA., and a host of nieces, nephews and close family friends. Charlotte was predeceased by her 2 children; Davis W Gilyard, Jr., Sherry Gilyard, brothers, Daniel J. Sampson, Jr., and Thomas Sampson. Graveside Services will be Wednesday December 30, 2020 at 1pm in Charles Evans Cemetery, 1119 Center Ave., Reading.
