Charlie Lawrence Wheelous Sr., 97, of Granville County passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham.
Charlie was born in Granville County to the late Albert W. Wheelous and Blonnie O'Neal. He was a lifetime member of Mary's Chapel Baptist Church where he played the organ and piano and was a former deacon and church treasurer. Charlie retired from Murdoch Developmental Center in Butner.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Mary's Chapel Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Al Thomas and Reverend Ray Gooch. Burial will follow in the Wheelous Family Cemetery in the Grissom Community.
He leaves to cherish his memory, six daughters, Melanie Stephens (David) of Creedmoor, Vickie Grissom (Robert) of Creedmoor, Gina Morris (Roger) of Oxford, Tami Gardner of Smithfield, Blonnie "Dee" Wheelous of Lake Worth, Fl. and Mia Howell (Donnie) of Franklinton; one son, Charlie Wheelous Jr. of Creedmoor, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Nell Wheelous; a brother-in-law, Cecil Keith and a sister-in-law, Emma Ruth Woodlief. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty three years, Margaret Woodlief Wheelous; three sisters, Helen Johnson, Margaret Keith and Polly Garner and sons-in-law, Arthur Grissom Jr. and A. Max Gardner.
