Charles West Waugh, Sr., of Eskridge, Kansas passed away at his home September 20, 2021. He was born May 26, 1930 the son of John Y. and Charlotte West Waugh.
He grew up in Eskridge and also attended Gulfport Military Academy in Mississippi and Pembroke Country Day High School in Kansas City. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1952 and the School of Law in 1956. Prior to attending Law School he served in the United States Army.
Charles was joined in marriage to Janice Stone on June 8, 1955. They moved to Eskridge in 1956 and raised four children West, John, Sam, and Anne. He was a lawyer and rancher in the Eskridge area his entire life. He served as a Wabaunsee County Attorney and was a member of the Second Judicial District Nominating Commission for many years. Charles maintained his law office in Eskridge from 1956 until his passing and worked with Ila Bush in his office the past sixty-one years and practiced with John the past twenty-three years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and Shriners and the American Legion of Eskridge.
Charles is survived by his wife, Jan, of the home, four children, West (Shirley), John, Sam (Lisa), and Anne Moore (John), eight grandchildren, Katie, Sadie, Mary Ann, Tucker, Grace, John, Charlotte, and Evelyn and two great grandchildren, Lilly and Anna. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Jack and George.
Graveside services will be held at the Eskridge Cemetery on October 2, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at their home in Eskridge following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka, Topeka Midland Hospice, or the Eskridge City Park and mailed in care of VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O.
