Charles Randall "Randy" Ware, Jr. was born March 8, 1956 in Lufkin, Texas, and died Saturday, February 3, 2024 in Tyler, Texas.
Randy was born to Shirley (Beckham) Ware and Charles R. Ware, Sr. He grew up and lived in Lufkin almost his entire life. He was kind, compassionate, and never hesitated to volunteer to help others. He graduated from Lufkin High School in 1974 as well as Angelina College in 1977. Randy graduated from the East Texas Police Academy at Kilgore College and began working at the Angelina County Sheriff's Office in 1985 as a Peace Officer. He went on to receive many other law enforcement certifications over the years and in 2000 he became a Master Peace Officer.
In 2010, his love of motorcycles and helping others led him to co-found the local Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club Chapter. He loved to travel with his friends all over the state of Texas trying new restaurants, visiting national and state parks, and going on the occasional ghost tour. He was a lover of life, boating, camping, tinkering with electronics, scuba diving, traveling with his RV, and jeeping and snowmobiling in Colorado. He was a member of the Deep East Texas Amateur Radio Club, call sign N5CRW, for many years. One of his favorite events for the past 18 years was volunteering to be on the set-up crew for the hundreds of fireworks at the annual City of Lufkin 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza at Ellen Trout Zoo.
Randy was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for over 25 years and was Scout Master of numerous Boy Scout and Explorer troops. He helped many scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, including his own son, and led many camping adventures and community service projects.
His newest hobby was playing pickleball. He was a member of the Lufkin Pickleball Friends, Livewell Pickleball, and Nacogdoches Old Town Pickleball groups. He absolutely loved playing pickleball and meeting new players. He would often play in the morning, go to lunch, then meet another group in the afternoon to play again.
After more than 39 years of service to Angelina County, Randy retired to travel and spend time with his son, David, and his beloved 4-year old twin granddaughters, Shelby and Charlotte. They were the absolute joys of his life and "Papa" was his new favorite title.
Randy is survived by his son, David Ware of Matthews, Georgia; granddaughters, Shelby and Charlotte Ware of Georgia, and Kenley Hopson of Lufkin, Texas; mother, Shirley Ware of Lufkin, Texas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sheryle and Tim Pettet of Santa Cruz, California, and Margaret and John Tjossem of Montrose, Colorado; niece and husband, Heather Elledge and Andrew Wilson of Seattle, Washington; great-niece, Margaret Annelise Wilson of Washington; nephews and wives, Metro and Jasmine Pettet of Portland, Oregon, and Phoenix and Erin Pettet of Santa Cruz, California; stepdaughter and husband, Brianna and Nick Hopson of Lufkin, Texas; uncle and aunt, Peyton and Nancy Ware of Allen, Texas; uncle, Jack Beckham of Deer Park, Texas; and numerous cousins and other loved ones.
